ANT-HOMOSEXUALITY ACT IN UGANDA
LGBTIQ+ ACT 🇺🇬
In a grim escalation of persecution, President Museveni's government in Uganda ramped up crackdowns and discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals to unprecedented heights, culminating in the passage of one of the world's harshest anti-LGBT laws in May 2023. The Anti-Homosexuality Act includes a draconian provision in Section 13 that criminalizes the promotion of homosexuality, imposing imprisonment for violators and jeopardizing the registration of organizations that advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. As the constitutional court upheld this oppressive legislation in April 2024, the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ people in Uganda hang in the balance, highlighting the urgent need for global solidarity and action to combat such egregious human rights violations.
